Iran Visa Issuance Procedure

We can contribute to the issuance of your Iran visa in coordination with the Visa Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (M.O.F.). After you fill in the requested information on the visa form (in two separate attachments for individual & group travelers), we transfer your visa application to M.O.F. This process takes 5-10 working days after sending the application form to the mentioned department.

Iran visa procedures for American, British, Canadian, and Australian citizens are longer, as it takes 35-45 working days. Your Visa Authorization as a reference number will be sent simultaneously to you and to the Iran consulate or embassy of the place to which you applied for an Iran visa. This Visa authorization is based on your application file at M.O.F., whereupon the Iranian Embassy will issue your visa.
Nevertheless, you have a free hand in planning & programming your entire travel itinerary.

Besides, we can help you plan your journey with the least amount of restrictions possible and will do our utmost to remain flexible according to your needs.
You need to make all of your travel arrangements including accommodation, domestic flights, and/or a private car and guide/driver throughout the trip in advance.

The maximum duration of an Iran tourist visa is 30 days. However, this is at the discretion of the foreign ministry bureaus around the country to extend your visa.

Visas can be collected at any Iranian consulate or Embassy (consulate section) around the world even in the Iranian interest section of the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC. In the US.

Please note that you should inform us at the time of application in which country you wish to collect your visa.  Visa issuance for American, British, and Canadian passport holders is subject to particular regulations. For example, at the moment, the Iran Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not allow American/British/Canadian passport holders to travel to Iran independently. They are required to travel on escorted tours; either as part of a tour group, or a tailor-made individual tour. An exact itinerary, to which you must adhere, is compulsory.

Iran Visa FAQ — All You Need to Know Before You Travel to Iran

1. Do I need a visa to visit Iran?

In most cases, yes. The majority of travelers must obtain a visa before entering Iran.

A handful of nationalities, such as Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, Malaysia, and Turkey, can enter for a short visa-free stay. (The full list is mentioned above.)

Depending on where you’re from, you may be eligible for an Iran e-Visa or an Iran Visa on Arrival (VOA).

However, citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada follow different rules: they must apply through an authorized tour operator and are required to travel with a licensed guide.

2. What type of Iran Visa should I apply for?

Your visa type depends on the purpose of your trip:

  • Tourist Visa: For sightseeing and general travel.
  • Family Visa: For visiting relatives who live in Iran.
  • Business Visa: For work-related meetings, negotiations, or events.
  • Medical Visa: For travelers seeking healthcare or medical treatment in Iran.
3. What is the Iran Visa Grant Notice?

Once your visa request has been reviewed and approved, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues a Visa Grant Notice. This approval letter allows you to collect the physical visa at your selected embassy or consulate- or at the airport if your nationality qualifies. Bring this notice, your passport, and any required fees when picking up the final visa.

4. What should I do after receiving my visa authorization code?

When your visa authorization code is issued, you have two ways to receive the actual visa:

  • Collect at an Embassy/Consulate: You’ll have 60 days to visit the location you selected during your application, pay the relevant fee, and obtain your visa.
  • Pick Up at an Iranian Airport: If you opted for airport collection, you have 90 days to arrive in Iran, pay the visa fee, and receive your visa upon landing.
5. Will my passport be stamped in Iran?

No. Iran no longer stamps the passports of foreign visitors. Your visa details are provided digitally or on a separate slip, keeping your passport stamp-free.

6. How long can I stay in Iran on an Iran tourist visa?

Tourist visas are typically issued for up to 30 days. You can request an extension inside Iran, subject to approval, with the maximum total stay being 90 days.

7. Can I get a multiple-entry tourist visa for Iran?

Not at this time. Iran currently issues single-entry tourist visas only. Although double-entry visas were briefly available in the past, they are no longer offered due to updated policies.

If you exit the country and plan to return, you must apply for a new visa before re-entering.

8. Which nationalities must apply for an Iranian visa well in advance?

Certain nationalities must start their visa process earlier due to additional screening:

  • Require early application (at least 2 months ahead): the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
  • Complicated or longer processing times: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Colombia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Nepal, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and Yemen.
9. What if my country doesn’t have an Iranian embassy or consulate?

If Iran has no diplomatic mission in your country, you still have two options:

  • Collect your visa at an Iranian airport: Select an airport as your pick-up location in the application (Some nationalities are not eligible for this, so verifying beforehand is important).
  • Pick up your visa in another country: Choose an Iranian embassy or consulate in a nearby country you plan to pass through, for example, in Turkey or the UAE.
10. Which Iranian airports allow visa pick-up?

You can collect your Iranian visa at several major international airports across the country. The main options include:

  • Tehran – Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA)
  • Mashhad – Mashhad International Airport
  • Isfahan – Isfahan International Airport
  • Shiraz – Shiraz International Airport

  • Lar – Larestan International Airport
  • Bandar Abbas – Bandar Abbas International Airport

11. When is the best time to apply for an Iranian visa?

It’s wise to apply at least 30 days before your planned arrival. While some visas are processed in 2–3 weeks, delays can occur due to additional document checks, busy travel seasons, or nationality-specific requirements.

Travelers from the US, UK, and Canada should apply 50–60 days in advance through an authorized tour operator, as their process is more detailed.

12. Who can enter Iran without a visa?

Several countries enjoy visa-free entry for limited durations, for example: • Azerbaijan and Malaysia (15 days); • Egypt (20 days); • China, Hong Kong, Macao (21 days); • Georgia (45 days); and • Turkey (90 days); China, Hong Kong, Macao (21 days).
